Every writer has a back story. A moment when the word became as important as breathing. When the life-giving force was punctuated by letters and sounds and periods and question marks and exclamation points and the double dash. Especially the double dash--especially.
Each writer has a point of no return. When words became essential for survival. When each joining of consonant and vowel created a rush of something unlike anything ever felt before.
I know that feeling. I am writer. Hear me roarrrrrr (or rawr, if you're feeling naughty).
Educator. Writer. Playwright. Poet. Blogger. Editor. Wordsmith. Or Whatever.

As part of the Listen to Your Mother, I created this piece to discuss part of my story. It's deeply personal and that is part of its power. I know my experience is not unique to me.
Once upon a time, I created a Black women's writing collaborative. We performed all over, from Seneca Falls to Rochester. From local colleges to the Fringe Fest. Our work was impactful and significant because we mixed voice and scholarship. Yeah.. We ALL Write.
